Art Blocks and Bright Moments have joined forces once again for their latest collaboration project, 923 Empty Rooms by Casey Reas. This new artwork expands upon Reas’ previous work, An Empty Room, which was commissioned by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) back in 2023. Reas’ latest project explores simulation, visual representation, and abstraction, delving into kinetic art and a “binary plastic language,” while also touching on the history of perspective and cubism.
The core concept of 923 Empty Rooms is the selection of one shape or “colorform” for each Bright Moments location, including Los Angeles, New York, Berlin, London, Mexico City, and Tokyo. These six colorforms are then combined using an algorithm to generate 923 unique outputs, forming a single on-chain collection. Reas has chosen to release 923 Empty Rooms on the Art Blocks website.
This collaboration between Art Blocks and Bright Moments builds upon their previous partnership as part of the Art Blocks Collaborator Collection. Both platforms are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of generative art, and the collaboration with Casey Reas further solidifies their commitment to this goal. Reas is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in the modern generative art community.
For collectors interested in acquiring a ‘923 Empty Rooms’ artwork, the collection will be minted over six days through a dutch auction. Throughout the week, collectors can visit Bright Moments galleries to view the longform outputs of the Empty Rooms algorithm. The global exhibition starts in Tokyo and concludes in Los Angeles on August 19th, with each day representing 1/6 of the collection associated with a specific colorform.
There are 917 algorithmic combinations available for collectors, as the Bright Moments galleries receive their primary colorforms. Each city – New York, Berlin, London, Mexico City, and Tokyo – will have 154 combinations, while Los Angeles will have 153. Collectors also have the opportunity to acquire combinations from different cities.
Once the final sale concludes, wallets holding a “Full Set” with a colorform from each city will be eligible for a special mint from the artist to commemorate the collection. To stay updated, collectors should keep an eye on the Bright Moments Twitter account for additional information.
In conclusion, the collaboration between Art Blocks and Bright Moments on 923 Empty Rooms by Casey Reas represents a significant milestone in the world of generative art. The project’s exploration of simulation, visual representation, and abstraction, combined with its unique algorithmic combinations, makes it a highly sought-after collection. Collectors and art enthusiasts alike eagerly await the opportunity to acquire these remarkable artworks.
